Dr Nikolaos Mardas qualified in Dentistry at the University of Athens, Greece in 1992. He qualified as a specialist in Periodontology at the Royal Dental College, University of Aarhus, Denmark in 1997 along with completing a Master of Science Degree in Periodontology in the same year. Nikolaos continued to work at the same university from September 1997 to September 2000, as an academic and clinical staff member and was awarded his PhD degree in May 2005.

Nikolaos has worked as a Periodontist in his own private practice limited to Periodontics and Implant dentistry in Athens Greece whilst at the same time working as a consultant Periodontist in other private practices.

In 2005 he joined the world known Eastman Dental Institute (UCL) where he is currently holding the position of Senior Clinical Lecturer/ Honorary Specialist (UCLH).

He is also the program co-ordinator for the Master in Clinical Dentistry/ Periodontology, the only UK based specialist training program In Periodontology that is accredited by the European Federation of Periodontology.

Dr Mardas is an active member of the Hellenic and British Periodontal Society, the European Federation of Periodontology, the European Association of Osseointegration, Higher Education Academy and Fellow of the International Team for Implantology.

His main research interests are in the area of bone and periodontal tissues regeneration utilising the GTR principle, various bone grafts and bone substitutes and growth factors in healthy and compromised healing conditions like osteoporosis and in outcomes of implant therapy.

He has published scientific papers in this field in national and international peer-reviewed journals and he is a member of the editorial team in national and international scientific journals.

Dr Mardas has lectured nationally and internationally and recently was awarded the prestigious Basic Research Prize, of the European Association for Osseointegration (EAO).
