About Dental Dentures

Dentures have been used for many years in dentistry to replace missing teeth. Nowadays, we have excellent techniques and materials for dentures that make them a popular option when replacing one or many teeth.

Advantages of Dentures when replacing missing teeth?

There are many situations where it might be deemed necessary to recommend that a crown is required. Your dentist will discuss this with you. The most common reasons as listed below.

  • Quick and non-invasive treatment
  • Often, the most affordable solution
  • Can be used as a short to medium term option
  • Easy to adjust and add to if required
  • Modern options can give a lovely natural and bright smile

What is the treatment process for Dentures?

The treatment phase is usually done in two to three visits depending on the individual case. Your dentist will discuss the types of dentures that could work for you in your initial appointment.

The first visit is where the dentist will carefully take an accurate mould of your mouth to send to the lab.

The second visit can involve a second mould of the teeth and a wax bite where the dentist is evaluating how you bite together so the denture sits comfortably.

The last visit of the treatment is when the denture is fitted in your mouth. The dentist will try it in your mouth for accurate fit around your teeth and gums and may adjust it as required.

It can take a week or so for the dentures to settle and for the bite to feel fully comfortable. Cleaning and maintenance of your denture along with other teeth will be discussed and a suitable recall plan can be made for your next routine appointments.

Are there other options?

Dentures are removable and should be taken out when placing sport and when sleeping.

If you are looking to replace your teeth with something more fixed, you could consider Dental Implants or Bridges.
