About Dental Bridges

Dental bridges are a great option for replacing missing teeth. They do not need to be taken out when eating or with sport or when sleeping. A dental bridge will use one of more of your actual teeth to support one or more missing teeth. The bridge is fixed and retained with a strong adhesive cement. Overall, the process is quick, simple and not invasive making bridges an excellent solution for those looking for a natural replacement for missing teeth.

What is the treatment process for Dental Bridges?

If you would like dental bridges, the dentist will first check you are suitable to have the treatment. A stable mouth is essential and this will be evaluated before the treatment can start. Bridges can be made from a wide range of materials and your dentist will discuss which material would be most suitable for your individual case.

The treatment phase is usually done in two visits. The first visit is where the dentist will diligently shape your tooth/teeth in a way that it can support the bridge. A mould is then taken of your teeth which is sent to the lab who construct the bridge. A temporary will be put on the teeth between the first and second appointments.

The second visit of the treatment is usually a week or two later once the bridge has been made for you. The dentist will try it in your mouth for accurate fit around your teeth and gums. Once you and the dentist are happy, the bridge will be cemented in.

It can take a week or so for the bridge to settle and for the bite to feel fully comfortable. Cleaning and maintenance of your bridge along with other teeth will be discussed and a suitable recall plan can be made for your next routine appointments.

How long do Bridges last?

How long a bridge lasts depends on many factors such as the type of bridge used, the amount and health of the remaining natural tooth and the quality of oral hygiene. For a better understanding, please discuss this with your dentist.
